Dr. Julia Fleckman will share lessons from over a decade of community-engaged violence prevention work in New Orleans, including her coalition-building efforts and current William T. Grant-funded project in partnership with NOLA Public Schools and the Center for Restorative Approaches. She’ll discuss how schools have served as critical partners in coalition work and what that means for researchers and practitioners working in school settings.
Dr. Julia Fleckman, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Professor at the Andrew M. and Jane M. Bursky School of Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses on preventing violence and violence-related harms, particularly how structural and social conditions shape community firearm violence and family violence. She works closely with community organizations, health systems, schools, and government agencies to evaluate and implement prevention strategies. Before joining WashU, she was on the faculty at Tulane University, where she also directed research and evaluation at the Tulane Violence Prevention Institute.
