Every school and district makes curriculum choices, but the price tag on a textbook, workbook, or software package says surprisingly little about whether it will help students learn. This brief from WashU’s Institute for School Partnership pulls together the research on what separates high-quality curricular materials from the rest, spotlighting three features worth looking for and offering practical examples of what each looks like in a real classroom. It also takes up a harder question: once a district has chosen strong materials, what does it take for teachers to use them well?

Join researchers and practitioners to compare what the evidence says with what happens on the ground when new curriculum arrives in schools.
