The Good, the Bad, and the Weird: Rethinking AI in Education by Centering People

March 4, 2026
9:00 am - 10:00 am

Join CERP3 for the first of our monthly Education Research, Practice, and Policy Seminar Series.  The March Seminar will be held online via zoom with Eunhye Ahn, PhD to discuss the changing landscape of AI in education.

AI in education is often framed as either a great equalizer or an existential threat, but both narratives oversimplify who’s affected and how. Drawing on research in AI divides and human-AI decision-making, this talk unpacks the complexity between these extremes: why quick fixes like AI detectors fail, why different people need different support, and why critical engagement with AI is harder than it sounds. This talk makes a case for centering people and the core purpose of learning in how we approach AI in education, and why that’s work no single discipline can do alone.

Dr. Ahn is an Assistant Professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses on leveraging data to improve the outcomes of children and families and advance broader social goals of equity and justice. To expand our understanding of applying data science to government, policy, and protection systems in the child welfare arena, she closely collaborates with practitioners and community partners.

The event will take place over zoom.
